Fixing Windows Media Playlists to be used in you WD TV

Windows Media Player always write playlist files (.wpl) with absolute paths. WD TV devices only can deal with relative paths.

It’s possible to run a simple sed script to replace the absolute path for a relative one.

Assumptions:

Windows Media Player uses a Library pointing to a share. In my case a Iomega Home Media device:  \\MYDISK\Music

That share it’s your default library path in WMP, so playlists will be written in \\MYDISK\Music\Playlist

Script

fix-pl.sh

#!/bin/sh
sed -i s/\\\\\\\\MYDISK\\\\Music/../g *.wpl

Store it in \\MYDISK\Music\Playlist

Run it from SSH :

cd /mnt/pools/A/A0/Music/Playlists
chmod +x fix-pl.sh
./fix-pl.sh
